[성명] 최상재 언론노조 위원장을 즉각 석방하라!
정부 여당의 언론관계법 날치기 처리에 항의해 총파업 투쟁을 벌였던 전국언론노동조합 최상재 위원장을 경찰이 27일 오전 자택에서 긴급체포했다. 경찰은 이 과정에서 막내 딸 등 가족이 보는 앞에서 최 위원장을 강제로 체포 연행하는 등 인권을 억압하는 행태를 보였다고 한다.
우리는 총파업 투쟁을 문제 삼아 언론노조 최 위원장을 체포한 경찰의 행위에 대해서 엄중히 항의하며 깊은 유감의 뜻을 표명한다.
언론노조의 총파업 투쟁은 대다수 국민이 반대함에도 불구하고 언론관계법 강행 처리를 시도한 정부 여당의 일방적 폭주를 막기 위한 언론자유 투쟁이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 국회법과 절차를 어기면서 날치기 처리된 언론법의 문제점과 일부 여당 의원들의 법을 어긴 행위를 묵과한 채, 경찰이 언론노조 위원장만을 체포한 것은 언론노조의 ‘언론악법 저지 투쟁’을 꺾으려는 행태가 아닐 수 없다.
경찰은 즉시 최상재 언론노조 위원장을 석방해야 한다.
아울러 여당은 언론관계법 처리 과정의 문제점을 인정하고, 강행 처리된 언론관계법 개정을 무효화해야 한다. 여야는 대화와 타협을 통해서 장기화되고 있는 언론관계법 파행 정국의 문제점을 풀어야 한다.
