"언론사 공동취재단 꾸려 보도 통한 의혹 규명에 나서야"

이종걸 민주당 의원이 국회 본회의 발언에서 故 장자연 리스트 수사와 관련한 유력 신문사와 사주 실명을 공개해 논란이 일고 있다. 이정희 민주노동당 의원 역시 <MBC 100분 토론>을 통해 이 신문사들과 사주들의 이름을 직접 언급하면서 권력의 눈치를 보고 있는 경찰 수사의 문제점을 간접적으로 비판했다.

故 장자연 리스트 수사와 관련 경찰 수사와 언론보도를 통해서 흘러나오고 있는 '유력신문사 사주', '인터넷신문사 대표' 등의 이름은 그 진위 여부는 일단 차치하고 언론계의 도덕성에 대한 국민의 불신을 가중시키고 있다. 특히 '모 인터넷신문사 사주'의 '적절치 않는 행위' 등의 보도는 인터넷언론에 대한 신뢰와 믿음감을 실추시키는 기제로 작용하고 있어 대단히 유감스럽다.

또한 소위 '00일보'에 관한 실명 보도 또는 익명 보도 논란으로 인하여 해당 신문사는 물론, 이를 보도하거나 보도하지 않는 언론사 간의 갈등과 소모적인 논란, 불신을 유발하고 있다.

이 모두 대단히 부끄러운 일인 동시에 다시 한 번 언론의 무거운 책임을 각인하게 만드는 사건임에 틀림없다.

그러나 사태가 이 지경에 이르게 된 데에는 1차적으로 경찰의 책임이 크다. 박연차 리스트 수사에 대해서는 검찰이 시시각각 주요한 내용을 언론에 실시각으로 흘려보내고 있는 점을 비교해 볼 때 故 장자연 리스트 수사에 대한 경찰의 함구는 편파적이라는 비난을 받을 수밖에 없어 보인다.

이 문제를 보도한 인터넷매체 등이 회원사로 소속된 한국인터넷기자협회는 이 사안의 중대성과 공익성, 아울러 이해 당사자의 인격권 보호 등을 종합적으로 감안해 다음과 같은 입장을 밝힌다.

1. 이 사건의 언론계 연루 의혹과 관련 언론계에 쏟아지고 있는 국민적 불신을 해소하고, 국민의 알 권리에 부응하고, 해당 당사자에 대한 인격권 보호를 위해서 적극적인 보도에 나서고 있는 인터넷매체 등 언론사의 취재와 보도, 네티즌들의 글쓰기 등 언론과 표현의 자유에 입각한 활동은 원칙적으로 적극 보장되어야 한다. 이런 측면에서 보면 언론 자유를 훼손하는 부당한 압력을 언론사에 행사하거나, <미디어다음>이 해당 사안에 대한 이용자들의 게시물을 삭제(블라인드 처리)하는 행태는 개탄스러우며 즉각 중단되어야 할 것이다.

2. '권력의 눈치를 봐서 수사에 대해서 함구한다'거나 '몸통은 봐주고 피라미만 처벌한다'는 세간의 오해를 불식하기 위해서라도 경찰은 故 장자연 리스트 수사에 대해서 한 줌의 의혹과 성역 없이 시급히 수사에 박차를 가해 명명백백하게 진실을 밝혀냄으로써 국민의 인권을 보호하는 본연의 책무를 다해야 한다. 거북이 걸음으로 가는 경찰의 현재 수사 행태는 국민 여론에 반하는 것이며 엄중히 비판받아 마땅하다. 특히 언론계에 대한 국민의 불신을 가중시킨 근본 원인과 책임이 ‘특정 언론사를 봐주고 있다’는 비판을 받고 있는 무능한 수사와 눈치보기식 수사에 있음을 경찰은 직시해야 한다.

3. 한국인터넷기자협회는 故 장자연 리스트 수사와 관련해 이 문제의 진상 규명을 위해서 언론사로서는 이례적으로 공개적인 입장을 표명한 <조선일보>의 주장에 특히 주목한다. <조선일보>의 '보도에 신중을 기해 주실 것을 당부드린다', '관계 당국은 철저한 수사를 통해 이번 사건의 진상을 하루 속히 밝혀줄 것을 요청한다'는 입장을 감안해 볼 때 <조선일보>를 포함한 관심 있는 언론사 취재진들과 함께 '故 장자연 리스트 진실규명을 위한 공동 취재단'을 구성해 사태의 모든 진상을 명백하게 규명해 국민에게 보도를 통해 공개할 것을 제안한다. 의혹을 받고 있는 해당 언론사뿐만 아니라 언론계 전체에 쏟아지는 비난이 사실에 근거한 것인지, 아니면 오해와 불신에 기초한 것인지 확인해 보도함으로써 이 문제에 관한 소모적인 대립과 논란을 시급히 해소할 것을 제안한다.

4. 특히 '모 인터넷신문사 대표'로 알려진 인사는 인터넷언론에 대한 국민적 불신과 비난을 해소하기 위해서라도 자신의 소환수사에 관한 입장과 해명을 공개적으로 밝혀 줄 것을 촉구한다.

5. 언론계는 ‘유력 언론사’에 관한 실명 보도 또는 익명 보도에 관한 소모적이며 불필요한 논란에 매몰되어 있을 것이 아니라, 이 사건의 핵심이라 할 수 있는 경찰의 故 장자연 리스트 수사가 ‘권력’에 대한 눈치 없이 독립적으로, 빠르게, 성과 있게 진척될 수 있도록 경찰 수사에 대한 감시와 비판, 대안 제시의 역할 수행을 충실히 해야 할 것이다.

6. 故 장자연 리스트 수사와 관련해 경찰 수사의 혐의를 받고 있는 당사자와 관계된 인물에 대한 인격권 보호를 위해 언론은 신중한 태도로 보도에 임해야 할 것이다.
